Monday, December 5  We will leave from the parking lot at the SMC Niles Campus parking lot for Chicago O'Hare and our flight to Kona on the Big Island of Hawaii. Lodging will be at the Royal Kona Resort Hotel within walking distance of the charming seaside village of Kona.

Tuesday, December 6  With body time 5 hours later we will have no problem with an early morning rise for an escorted hike through the beautiful Kailua-Kona area. Later that afternoon I will lead an optional hike to Kakaka Kai along a lovely coastal trail and visit the green sea turtles.  That evening we will take a short walk to the fabulous King Kamehameha Beach Luau for dinner and festivities.

Wednesday, December 7  We will board our luxury motor coach for a grand tour around this wonderful island. The highlight of this trip will be a stop in the Volcanoes National Park at a live volcano for an awesome hike through the Kilauea Iki Crater. The crater trail ends at the Volcano House Hotel overlooking the crater where we will have lunch. Then it is on around the island for many dramatic vistas and black sand beaches of the Hamakua Coast, waterfalls, dramatic cliffs, rain forest and deserts. Our grand circuit past the Parker Ranch will end with a snack stop at a local’s favorite and the white sands of Hapuna Beach.
